As I write this, I’m sitting next to a giant window… and all I can see is gray. When the days of winter get terribly gloomy, it can be tempting to run back to bed, pull the covers over your head, and never leave. Yet, there are better ways to approach the dreary weather outside.
HERE ARE FIVE WAYS TO CHEER UP ON A GLOOMY DAY:
1. MAKE COFFEE, TEA, OR HOT CHOCOLATE
Very little is as wonderful on a gloomy day as a hot cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Maybe it’s the cute mug, something hot to wrap your hands around, or simply the taste. Whatever makes it so wonderful, making yourself a cup of something hot always brings some happiness to a gray day.
2. GRAB A BOOK OR POP IN A MOVIE
Gloomy days call for indoor activities. What better thing to do than hunkering down under a pile of blankets and picking up a wonderful book or watching a funny movie? Do something you enjoy, while appreciating the fact that you don’t have to be outside when it’s gross outside.
3. PUT TOGETHER A GREAT PLAYLIST
If you need a major pick-me-up, try putting together a happy and energetic playlist. You’ll feel like dancing, and your mood will lift instantly. As an added plus, next time you need a mood booster, the playlist will be already made.
4. CLEAN AND LIGHT CANDLES
When it’s gross outside, I love making inside as neat, welcoming, and pretty as possible. Typically, this means doing chores for a little bit and making the house (or dorm room) look great. Then, finish off by lighting some candles, and sit back and enjoy how warm your space looks compared to outside.
5. GO TO A SOCIAL PLACE OR OUT WITH FRIENDS
If the frightful weather outside really has you down, get out of your normal space. Go somewhere that’s bustling with activity, or go out for dinner and fun with friends. When it’s gross outside, I like to hole up in my favorite coffee shop for a few hours. What’s better than be surrounded by people while being able to do your own thing with unlimited coffee??
