Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Dean Heller (R-NV), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) have introduced the Jerusalem Embassy and Recognition Act in the Senate, legislation that would recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s true capital and move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.
A statement from Marco Rubio said:
“Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish state of Israel, and that’s where America’s embassy belongs. It’s time for Congress and the President-Elect to eliminate the loophole that has allowed presidents in both parties to ignore U.S. law and delay our embassy’s rightful relocation to Jerusalem for over two decades.”
This piece of legislation is in step with President-elect Donald Trump’s stance on the issue, and is also supported by his pick for ambassador to Israel, David Friedman. An extremely controversial topic, moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem would break away from U.S. policy for the past several decades.
Senator Ted Cruz also gave a statement:
“Jerusalem is the eternal and undivided capital of Israel. Unfortunately, the Obama administration’s vendetta against the Jewish state has been so vicious that to even utter this simple truth – let alone the reality that Jerusalem is the appropriate venue for the American embassy in Israel — is shocking in some circles.”
What do you think-should the U.S. move its embassy to Jerusalem? Let HYPELINE know in the comments!
