There are always certain members of Congress who are able to create significant movements and gain a major national following. One of those members has been Rand Paul, who has largely picked up on the support which his father had created during his numerous Presidential runs and many years in Congress.

Since being elected in 2010, Paul has made a name for himself as a strong fiscal conservative and somebody who is not afraid to break away from his party when he disagrees with them. Perhaps the most notable time he has done this was when he filibustered the USA Freedom Act, which was offered as a bipartisan replacement of the PATRIOT Act.

Although some believed this would move in the direction of privacy for Americans, he argued that mass surveillance was not something which was compatible with the US Constitution. Although the replacement did eventually pass, there was a brief period of time where mass surveillance was typically illegal in the United States, as the PATRIOT Act had expired and had not yet been replaced.

One group which Rand Paul, much like his father, has been able to capitalize from has been young people. Millennials have largely been very receptive to Paul’s message of limited government and individual liberty. Oftentimes though, he has been criticized by more of the stereotypical social conservatives, who might take issue with his “hands off” approach to drug usage and marriage.

It appears though that one of the most prominent individuals in conservative media is a big fan of Paul. Evidently, Drudge had lunch with the Kentucky Senator in Washington the other day. Drudge took to Twitter saying, ”

Intriguing lunch in hill office of America’s best senator, Rand Paul. He’s bold, brave and has somehow kept his heart in such a corrupt city”

Apparently, Drudge is just one of many fans of the Republican Senator. With Trump’s recent attack on the Freedom Caucus, it will certainly be interesting to see how Paul is perceived moving forward.
