By the time Barack Obama, a freshman senator from Illinois, clinched the Democratic Nomination in the 2008 election, everyone knew one thing. The President-to-be had very little to no foreign policy experience, and he showed that lack of experience in 2009 when he embarked on what some critics dubbed the “Apology Tour.” The tour was a series of speeches made throughout the Middle East and European Countries. During the 2012 election cycle, GOP Nominee Mitt Romney condemned the President’s actions “of going to various nations in the Middle East and criticizing America.”

In 2009, after traveling to make his version of peace with the World on behalf of America, Obama began work on his campaign promise to end the war in Iraq by increasing the number of troop withdrawals from the country. The U.S. completely withdrew from Iraq in 2011 only to reenter 3 years later as ISIS filled the vacuum left behind. Today, Troops continue the fight to recapture cities in the country, most notability as of late is Mosul.

Obama’s policies in Iraq and the preceding invasion utterly destabilized the Middle Eastern region, and the President seemingly learned nothing from it as he sought to do the same as he went after Gaddafi in Libya.

In March of 2011, the Obama Administration led the charge in aiding rebel forces that successfully overthrew Libyan leader Muammar el-Gaddafi. The regime change, at first, seemed to work but later proved a failure. By the words of the President himself, “Probably failing to plan for the day after in intervening in Libya” is his worst mistake.

With all the recent discussion of “nukes” in the mainstream media due to Trump and Putin’s comments, it would be a mistake not to mention the grossly incompetent and deadly hopeful Iran Nuclear Deal. The agreement with Iran has to this point enriched the country monetarily and placed our closest ally, Israel, in more danger. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarded the agreement as an avenue for the State sponsor of terror to increase “support of terrorism and subversion” in the region while it “continues to seek” Israel’s downfall.

As far as the Obama/Israeli relationship is concerned, Obama is no friend to the Jewish State. He proved that exceedingly last week when he instructed UN Ambassador, Samantha Power, to abstain from voting on or vetoing the UN Security Council Resolution that rejects the legal legitimacy of the communities Israel established in West Bank and East Jerusalem. The Obama Administration received widespread backlash for the decision not to veto the Resolution from Israel and members of both U.S. political parties.

Mr. Obama, in the last 8 years, has capitalized on failed foreign policies and rejected trusted policies and alliances that were working towards more free democracies in the Middle East. Instead of truly freeing more people, this President has ensured prolonged struggling and destruction throughout the region. That will be the foreign policy legacy of President Barack Obama.
