The day after Thanksgiving has over the years become a holiday of its own— a shopping holiday that is. Black Friday has come to be a staple of early and affordable Christmas shopping, and an excuse to get some much needed “exercise” after all that turkey ate the day before. For some, this day is more important than the Holiday itself, I mean what’s more special than a day you can get a new flat screen tv for 50% off right?
For others, however, including myself, Black Friday is a headache that I’m just not willing to deal with. If you’re looking for some other great use of time— and form of exercise to shed off that turkey you probably ate too much of— this year you might want to Opt Outside.
National Parks Service has once again decided to wave entry fees into national parks on Black Friday, and if you go to their website you can even find organized events going on at your closest national park. What could be a better way to reflect on your blessings and the things you and your family are thankful for than spending some much needed time in the great outdoors.

These organized events range from group nature hikes to fishing activities. No matter where you are, there should be a national park near you, with some fun and exciting experiences awaiting you.
With the soon-to-be-rising prices in entry fees to popular national parks, now is a better time than ever to go to that park you’ve been wanting to visit for a while, but haven’t wanted to pay to see. Sometimes the only thing standing between people and experiencing unimaginable beauty and nature is the price it costs to get it. Take advantage of this time and get into Zion National Park, or Mt. Rainier National Park, or Yosemite, or Yellowstone for FREE.
Instead of fighting the crowds this year, take yourself, your family, and your friends on an adventure through what nature has to offer. Your mind, body, and overall well being will thank you. This Black Friday, I challenge all of you to Opt Outside!
