Earlier this morning, President Trump took to Twitter, slamming the media, to discuss allegations of “fake news” in the media, even suggesting a competition for a “fake news trophy.”

Fake News Trophy: President Trump’s Latest Take on the Mainstream Media

Shortly after 9:00 AM, President Trump tweeted out the following message regarding the media:

“We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me). They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!”

This latest tweet is not the first time the President has criticized the media. Shortly after claiming that networks should compete for the “fake news trophy,” President Trump tweeted that “nobody cares” about NBC due to their “terrible” ratings. He has also criticized CNN for “representing our nation to the world very poorly” in addition to slamming the New York Times as “naive,” “dumb,” “weak,” and “ineffective.”

The Backstory Behind President Trump’s Feud with the Mainstream Media

President Trump’s feud with the mainstream media predates back to the 2016 election. Throughout his campaign, the then future President slammed the media for not covering him or his campaign fairly. This has also continued throughout 2017; back in January, then President-elect Trump made the following remarks to a reporter from CNN:

“Your organization is terrible. Don’t be rude. No, I’m not going to give you a question. You are fake news.”

Conservative commentators such as Paul Joseph Watson and others have also slammed the media for reporting fake news. Many of Twitter users also tweeted out their agreement with the President’s message regarding competition for the “fake news trophy.”

“CNN is the worst , I read news from all over,, there is so much garbage from all of them, Funny, i read the UK. news, and for some reason they can get most news faster than all the “network’s” in the US.” – @Stan_kohut
