More State Laws Focusing On Free Speech After Several Campus Incidents

Florida, Nebraska and Texas among other state are focusing on campus free speech legislation, hoping to protect First Amendment rights for those at colleges and universities.

Specifically, Nebraska lawmakers are debating a free speech bill introduced by Republican State Sen. Steve Halloran after a student at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln set up a table near the Student Union to recruit new members for Turning Point USA. A graduate teaching assistant aggressively approached the student, calling her a “neo-fascist,” videos show.

The graduate assistant also accused the student of “wanting to destroy public schools” and “public universities.”
