Michigan State student government denies petition to display American flag

Conservative students from Michigan State University’s James Madison College sought, but were denied, approval for displays of the American flag on campus.

Their petition called for the installation of five illuminated flagpoles, one in each of the campus’ residential neighborhoods that would fly the American flag with the schools “Spartan” flag below. But the student government turned their thumbs down on the idea.

Students in the Madison College public affairs and public policy programs strongly criticized the decision by the liberal student government, calling it unacceptable and intolerable. They pointed out that a survey of the student body revealed that only 20 percent were opposed to the petition.
