Professor defends Turning Point USA’s Professor Watchlist

Turning Point USA’s Professor Watchlist is under constant attack from college progressives as a threat to free speech. It’s called everything from a tool of the alt-right to an invitation to violence.

But one professor, Roger Shouse, who teaches educational leadership at Pennsylvania State University, has no such problem. He suggests that thin-skinned professors ought to have the courage of their convictions about what they teach.

He asked, “How can more free speech be a threat to free speech?”  How can it be a threat to academic freedom? “You as a professor have the right to do what you want to do, but you better have the courage to stand up and defend it,”

Obviously, that idea didn’t sit well with Michelle Rodino-Colocino, a professor of feminist media studies. She called for the attendees at a panel sponsored by the American Association of University Professors to rally against their “opponents” on the right — including Turning Point members. Shouse told the gathering, he doesn’t understand the objections as long as “critics spell check his name” that would appear on any watchlist that’s not run by the government:

The Professor Watchlist, a project of Turning Point USA and Turning Point News, is an aggregated list of pre-existing news stories that were published by a variety of news organizations that spotlights left wing bias among professors.
