Breaking: Seattle Mayor Finally Resigns After 5th Allegation of Sex Abuse

Tuesday morning Seattle mayor Ed Murray finally resigned after facing multiple allegations of sexual assault. The resignation came after one of Murray’s cousins had come forward publicly to accuse the former mayor of sexually abusing him as a child.

Murray said in an emergency press conference Tuesday, “I am announcing my resignation as mayor, effective 5 pm tomorrow.” He continued by saying that “while the allegations against me are not true, it is important that my personal issues to do affect the ability of our city’s government to conduct the public’s business.”

The cousins name is Joseph Dyer, he stated that the abuse happened when he was 13 years old, he is now 54. He was the fifth man to come forward, all other victims were men as well. Murray denies this allegation, as well as the rest of them. He claimed that these claims come as an attack on his victory as a ‘gay-rights champion.’

Dyer, when talking about the abuse, said that Murray was living with him and his family in 1975, after Murray’s mother had passed away in 1994. “During that time, Murray regularly molested me in ways that can be best described as repeated and prolonged Child Molestation of the First Degree, or worse,” Dyer said in the declaration.

The accusations started back in April, when Delvonn Heckard, 46, came forward and alleged that Murray paid him for sex for years, starting when he was 15 years old. In 1986 Heckard was a troubled, homeless, drug addicted teen, and Murray took advantage of him. Heckard is a recovering addict, and is currently attending college, trying to move past the abuse he suffered. Murray denied these allegations, claiming that he had never even heard the victim’s name before the lawsuit began.

After Heckard came out with the difficult truth of what he faced, more victims began to come forward. Jeff Simpson, 49, became Murray’s foster child in Oregon in the early 1980’s. Murray began sexually abusing him when he was 13 years old. When he got a bit older, Murray started paying him for sex. Simpson told local news that Murray being in power was something he would abuse.

Lloyd Anderson, 52, met Murray in Portland as a troubled teen, also facing drug addiction. Murray paid him for sex on several occasions when he was 16 and 17 years old. Another victim, Maurice Jones, met Murray through Heckard in the late 1980’s. He was a teen when Murray paid him for sex on several occasions.

There are said to be many other victims who have yet to come out publicly about their abuse from the ex-mayor of Seattle. It is very sickening to know that such a vial man was in a position of so much power. Many people are relieved that Murray finally decided to step down, as he has been encouraged by many in the past few months.

Murray is still denying his involvement in any of the accusations, claiming that these allegations are part of a ‘Right-wing, homophobic conspiracy.’ Murray is an open homosexual, and believes this to be the cause of these claims.

City Council President Bruce Harrell will temporarily serve as mayor and will decide within five days whether to fill out the remainder of Murray’s term. Mayoral elections were already set to be held for November of this year.
