While people have been protesting the National Anthem during games have become more common, this time the person who was signing the National Anthem decided to protest the song while performing.

Singer Leah Tysse was preforming the National Anthem at a Sacramento Kings game Tuesday night and during her performance, she kneeled on the court.

Tysse explained on her Facebook page while she does love the United States, she says she can not stand by while people of color are profiled.

“I have sung the anthem before but this time taking a knee felt like the most patriotic thing I could do. I cannot idly stand by as black people are unlawfully profiled, harassed and killed by our law enforcement over and over and without a drop of accountability.”

Protests during the National Anthem has become common since they were started by San Franscio 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick. One of the consequences of the protests during football games has been a large amount of people boycotting the NFL games. The boycott has been one reason why NFL viewership on the networks has been down ten percent.

Because of the boycott, the four major NFL broadcast networks, who pay nearly $5 billion each year for broadcast rights, have started to return money to advertisers, according The Sporting News.
