NASHVILLE, TN — Last Wednesday, a bill was introduced into the Tennessee State House that would require all state licence plates to have the phrase “In God We Trust” placed on them.
Filed by Rep. Bill Sanderson (R), the bill would require all state licence plates to be redesigned and replaced as drivers have their registration renewed or when a new vehicle is purchased. Sanderson said the bill was something his constituents pushed him to pursue.
According to Sanderson the phrase would only be added to standard licence plates, not the speciality versions which are of greater cost than the standard issued plates.
Sanderson’s bill has already met opposition from the ACLU of Tennessee and the American Atheist Inc.
