Texas A&M student government mindlessly votes to limit free speech

The Texas A&M University’s student senate may have thought (or maybe not) it was protecting free speech but it actually was restricting it when it unanimously voted to support “free speech zones.”

“Zones” set aside where free speech supposedly flourishes in effect creates other “zones” where free speech is not allowed to flourish. Proponents of the free speech zones argue that they are “balancing” free speech with opening the entire campus to “chaos” and to protect the education and learning environment.

The argument is a throw-back to when students were protesting the Vietnam War and their critics argued that they were ruining the education environment.
