On April 1, Texas State Student Government put forth legislation calling for the banning of Turning Point USA chapters on TSU grounds. On Monday, April 8, Texas State SGA voted on this matter.
The SGA’s resolution listed numerous accusations against Turning Point USA; however, it also stated that in order to uphold free speech on campus, TPUSA must be silenced.
After an intense debate at the SGA meeting on Monday, the Texas State student government officially voted to ban Turning Point USA.
The official resolution, named, “Faculty and Student Safety Resolution of 2019,” demands the “immediate removal and barring of Turning Point USA from Texas State University and suggest[ed] protecting minority and marginalized populations from their negative campus influence.”
Pictures of the resolution surfaced shortly after:

According to Breitbart News, the resolution heavily cited an anti-TPUSA blog ran by an individual who claims to be a “dual-PhD candidate and graduate student instructor in the departments of History and Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan.”
The Texas State TPUSA chapter president, Stormi Rodriguez, was very critical of the use of this blog:
“If you cannot use a source for a college paper, then you definitely shouldn’t be using it to ban an organization.”
“They used Antifa, and an anti-TPUSA blog as their sources for this resolution,” continued Rodriguez.
The resolution makes strong claims, avowing that TPUSA is an exception to the freedom of speech – of which is protected by the First Amendment. The legislation insists that TPUSA “uses their placement on campus to harass, intimidate, threaten student and faculty as they see fit.”
Texas State has experience in making conservatives feel unwelcome on campus. Last year, Olivia Anderson, a TSU student, faced backlash simply for having conservatives opinions in a public student forum.
Last night, TPUSA’s chapter president was mocked and shouted at while giving her address at the podium.
Had she not been rudely interrupted so many times, I could’ve shown the whole video of @stormirdgz being the perfect example of a true leader. Love you Stormi 💕 Keep up the fight, TPUSA family has your back!🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/fylXYS6p09

Chants of “No more harassment, no more hate, remove Turning Point from Texas State!” broke out amongst those attending the meeting. One audience member even shouted “F*** you!” as Rodriguez introduced herself.
Rodriguez was also faced with a mob of leftist students as she exited the SGA meeting. Several students can be heard shouting different variations of “F*** you!”
If the left wants an example of what it looks like to be threatening and intimidating students, they should look in a mirror at #txst.

“We will not be silenced, and we will continue being active on this campus, because it is our constitutional right,” said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez told Breitbart that her and her fellow members of the TPUSA chapter will continue to be active on campus, despite the SGA’s legislation. The resolution will go to the Dean of Students for the final say.
On of April 8, however, the Dean of Students released a statement regarding the SGA’s banning of TPUSA.
The statement explains that for an organization to be banned, it must be under disciplinary sanctions. The Turning Point USA chapter is currently not under these sanctions.
Therefore, the TPUSA chapter is not barred from the Texas State campus. “Texas State supports the constitutional rights of all of our students, faculty, staff and visitors,” the statement read.
“Texas State better be very careful how they handle this injustice,” said TPUSA founder and executive director Charlie Kirk to Breitbart News.
“The eyes of the nation are now on them.”
“If the administration allows the total disregard for free speech rights, they should have their funding pulled, as per President Trump’s executive order,” added Kirk, “I will do everything in my power to make sure they are held accountable for silencing our diverse student leaders from having opinions on free markets and the constitution.”
“Shame on Texas State, this will not go without consequences,” said Kirk.
Needless to say, TPUSA chapters across the nation are coming to the support of Texas State’s chapter. LSU tweeted “We stand with our friends at Texas State, and we stand by free speech for ALL. Keep fighting for freedom!”
The Texas State Student Government is infringing on @txsttpusa‘s First Amendment rights to FREE SPEECH. This will not be tolerated.

The resolution passed by Texas State SGA is the exact reason President Donald Trump signed an executive order mandating free speech on college and university campus.
Turning Point USA will continue to fight for timeless American values such as free speech, limited government, and free markets, regardless of retaliation from the left.
